Frequently Asked Questions
Camelids need yearly vaccinations for Clostridium perfringens types C and D and tetanus (CDT) similar to small ruminants and cattle. Vaccinations against West Nile virus, Eastern equine encephalitis (EEE), Western equine encephalitis (WEE), and Venezuelan equine encephalitis (VEE) may also be recommended dependent on location and risk.
Interstate movement of livestock requires a recent health certificate before movement. Each state has separate requirements for movements and those can be found at Interstate Livestock Movement.

Yes, unfortunately our camelids are extremely susceptible to Valley Fever, also known as Coccidioidomycosis, a fungal infection causing nonspecific clinical signs such as weight loss, lethargy, skin abnormalities, and respiratory distress. If you notice signs of illness in your alpacas or llamas, call Arizona Livestock for an appointment.
