FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do pigs need hoof/tusk trims?

We highly recommend routine hoof and tusk trims every 6 months, with vaccinations given annually.

Hoof care is extremely important for the overall wellbeing of our patients. Routine hoof care aids in comfort and mobility of our patients at every stage of life.

When do I need health certificates for travel?

Interstate movement of livestock requires a recent health certificate before movement. Each state has separate requirements for movements and those can be found at Interstate Livestock Movement.

If you are planning to travel to a different state with your animals, we can help! Fill out the the form at the this link. When you submit it, our office will reach out to you to help get you prepared to move your animals.

What should I feed my pigs?

We highly recommend incorporating vegetables and roughage (grass hay) as the main component of pig diets to help prevent and overcome obesity.

Obesity is a common problem in pet pigs that is often associated with free choice feeding of grains (pig pellets) coupled with lack of exercise. Obesity contributes to heart disease, respiratory disease, lameness, and conditions such as fat blindness.
Minimize the risk of obesity with:

  • Meal feedings
  • Avoidance of feeding table scraps
  • Exercise
  • Measured feedings
